OWLS Talks – TED Talks for Military Women

Calling all TED Talk Wannabes!

We have a forum for YOU … Back by popular demand, the OWLS Talks will be taking place again during the 2021 event! If TED Talks are ideas worth spreading … then OWLS Talks are experiences worth sharing. We are calling for submissions from passionate, polished, out-of-the-box thinkers to speak for 5 minutes in front of an audience of fellow military members on a topic of your choosing that you feel should be addressed at the 2021 Mini-OWLS. Your topic can cover any issue or perspective relating to the Mini-OWLS theme; however, it should be non-partisan and non-service branch specific.

Submit an OWLS Talk concept and present at the upcoming Officer Women Leadership Symposium.

Submit your story or presentation topic in the form of a five-minute audio clip, a short written summary, and select photos. Your submission will be reviewed by a committee of military, veteran, and community leaders on the theme of Reimagining Meaningful Leadership.

Submit Story or Presentation Concept

Too often we look to find motivation elsewhere rather than from ourselves even though it’s often already within us.

The overarching theme for the 2021 Mini-OWLS is:

Reimagining Meaningful Leadership: In these unprecedented times, our traditional understanding of leadership is evolving rapidly to address new challenges and issues we face as individuals, communities, and a nation.  Now, more than ever, the importance of developing meaningful leadership to lead self, teams, and organizations, is essential for the growth and change these times demand.

The Mini-OWL Theme for 5 August, 2021 is

Leading Others with Humility, Power, and Influence:

This theme speaks to your ability as a leader to humbly build relationships and gain power to influence others for positive impact.  By effectively balancing personal attributes such as flexibility and stamina with skills such as conflict management, motivation, and communications, you can better optimize resources to effectively lead teams for mission success.

The Mini-OWL Theme for 9 November, 2021 is

Leading Ethically into the Future:

This theme speaks to your ability to recognize trends and strategically pursue opportunities that have potential to create value and impact for the future.  Driven by guiding principles and ethics, you seek to effectively lead your teams and organizations for positive change.

All submitted stories will be archived by the Women’s Memorial.
