CENTER FOR WOMEN VETERANS (CWV)

Women are one of the fastest growing subgroup of Veterans, and we are signing up for VA health care and benefits at higher rates than ever before.  However, women frequently report that they feel invisible as Veterans, both within and outside the VA.  That’s why the Center for Women Veterans (CWV) is focused on the needs of women Veterans with a mission to:

  1. Raise awareness about the service and sacrifice of women Veterans;
  2. Advocate for equitable outcomes and access to VA benefits, services, and opportunities for women Veterans; and
  3. Create cultural transformation through education, outreach and collaboration.

Immediate Care and Assistance

  • If you think your life or health is in danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You don’t need to check with the VA first.  But if you go to a non-VA facility—even one that’s in the VA’s community care network—you must follow certain rules so that the VA can cover the cost of your care. Learn More about Emergency Care at non-VA Facilities.
  • ANY Veteran – whether enrolled in VA or not – can go to a VA or non-VA emergency room for emergent suicidal care. Veterans in suicidal crisis should call 911 or visit their nearest emergency room for expedited care. VA will provide the treatment or cover the costs for treatment including transportation, inpatient or crisis residential care for up to 30 days, and outpatient care for up to 90 days.  Learn more about the COMPACT Act.
  • If you are a Veteran in crisis (or concerned about one) and need immediate help, contact the Veterans Crisis Line:
